Halloween Carnival Nets Nearly S9OO The Halloween Carnival, sponsored by the local Jaycees and Jaycettes, was a very successful event here Saturday night. The total receipts were over SB6O. The majority of the pro ceeds will be used to purchase playground equipment for the Cooleemee Elementary School. The winner of the 1955 Oldsmobile has not yet been determined. The person holding ticket stub number 006950 may contact one of the local Jaycees to claim your prize. An estimated crowd of over 600 spent a most entertaining evening participating in the variety of contests and games offered. This was the Jaycees first opportunity of sponsoring the Halloween Carnival, and they are to be commended for the fine work and the many long hours put into making it possi ble. The Carnival was previous ly sponsored by the local P.T.A., but had been eliminated for the past couple of years. The Jaycees and Jaycettes express their sincere ap preciation to the merchants for their donations of prizes and to all the ladies that took the time to bake cakes for the cake walk. Davie Library 5-3-66 Mocksville, N C 27028 Sgt. Bobby Thompson Wins Bronze Star U. S. Air Force Technical Sergeant Bobby M. Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Thompson of 42 Center St., Cooleemee, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal at McClellan AFB, Calif., for meritorious service while engaged in military operations against Viet Cong forces. Sergeant Thompson was cited for his performance as a fuel supervisor at Phu Cat AB, Viet nam. He is now assigned at McClellan as a member of the Air Force Logistics Command. The sergeant, a veteran of the Korean War, participated in the Lebanon and Cuban Crises. A graduate of Cooleemee High School, he is married to the former La Verne A. Nancy. UNICEF Collection The young people of the Cooleemee United Methodist Church collected $157.60 on the Trick or Treat for Unicef cam paign in the community Sunday afternoon. Chicken Pie Supper The annual chicken pie sup per, sponsored by tire local P.T.A., brought a net profit of over SI2OO Saturday, which has broken all previous records. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the purchase of new playground equipment, in con junction with the donation from the Jaycees and Jaycettes. The remaining funds will be used in supplies and additional equip ment tor the school. wm K mt Sgt. Bobby Thompson receives Bronze Star. Barbecue The Jerusalem Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a Texas Barbequc on Saturday, November 2, at the l ire Station. Serving will begin at 10 a.m. Then menu will include, in addi tion to the barbequc, such tasty items as green beans and corn, potato salad, slaw ant the good home-made pics and cakes for which the women of the community arc famous. Your choice of either hot coffee or iced tea is also included in the meal. Adults plates will be sold for $1.50 and children's plates will be available for only $ 1. All proceeds will go to benefit the I*ire Department, so plan now to cat dinner or supper with the volunteer firemen. You will a delicious meal and also be a great help. Take out boxes will also be available. If you prefer to cat at home just come by and pick up your lunch or supper. The firemen will be happy to pack it for you so that you can carry it home with no trouble.
